The Mortal Shell II console beta is now available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, giving players a chance to experience the opening hours of the upcoming action RPG ahead of its full release later this month.
Developer Cold Symmetry announced that the console version offers the same content as the beta currently available on Steam. Players can experience the first three hours of the game, beginning with the Prologue before venturing into an early section of the open world.
During the beta, players take on the role of the Harbinger, possessing fallen Shells as they explore, cleanse beacons, complete optional dungeons, battle hidden mini-bosses and make their way towards Magdelena, the Lady of the Woods. The beta also includes Tiel, the Acolyte, one of the game’s eight playable Shells.
Players who spend more than 30 minutes in the Mortal Shell II console beta will unlock The Flayed Harbinger, an exclusive cosmetic reward that can be redeemed when the full game launches. Those who progress beyond Marrow Keep will also unlock the option to skip the Prologue in the full release.
While these rewards will carry over, gameplay progress will not. Currency, weapons, Shells, collectibles and other items earned during the beta will reset when the full game launches to preserve the intended balance.
The announcement follows strong demand from players for a console version of the beta after its initial release on PC. Cold Symmetry said bringing the beta to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S was the most requested feature following the Steam beta.
Mortal Shell II launches worldwide on 20 August for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. Players who pre-purchase the Mortal Shell II Devout Edition can begin playing from 17 August with up to 72 hours of advanced access.
