A new game based on Square Enix’s action role-playing game series, NieR, is currently in development, according to a new rumor.
During the Q&A section of his latest YouTube video, known insider and content creator Nate the Hate was asked whether he has heard about any major title from Square Enix in the upcoming future besides Final Fantasy VII Revelation, and if there is any new NieR or Kingdom Heart 4 news. In response, he said that he heard about a new NieR game last year, though the information wasn’t too significant. Since then, he hasn’t anything on the project.
As for Kingdom Hearts 4, I haven’t heard anything, Nate said that he hasn’t heard anything. He speculated that it’s possible Square Enix will provide an update on the game sometime this summer, even if it’s just a minor one. He felt as though the publisher is focusing heavily on Final Fantasy VII Revelation.
The insider correctly claimed that Part 3 in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy will make an appearance at Summer Games Fest 2026. The game was featured in a major way at the event, closing the show with a lengthy presentation. One of its highlight features is that the game world can be traversed freely using the Highwind. Players will be able to fly across the planet and parachute directly into locations, transitioning seamlessly from the skies to the ground.
Back in February, Square Enix hinted at a potential NieR Automata sequel during the game’s ninth anniversary livestream, suggesting that the series may continue beyond its current entry. The message included the short phrase “NieR:Automata to be continued…” Since then, the publisher hasn’t provided any details about the teased continuation or clarified whether it pertains to a sequel or spin-off.
NieR Automata is available across PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
