A Reddit user by the name of Daimler_KKnD, who correctly leaked Japan as Forza Horizon 6’s setting alongside details on the now canceled Zenimax MMO codenamed Blackbird, has been told by their sources that a remaster of Ryse: Son of Rome is currently in development using CryEngine.

The leaker clarified that the upcoming remaster should not be mistaken for a remake, suggesting that the graphical improvements may be limited to the PC version’s highest settings. Microsoft may also see this as an opportunity to release the game for PS5. and Nintendo Switch 2. If the information is true, the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase later today on June 6, 2026.

Recently, a July, 2012, build of the canceled Xbox 360 version of Ryse: Son of Rome surfaced online, revealing several interesting performance metrics. Screenshots taken from the leaked build of feature CryEngine’s internal performance overlay, exposing detailed rendering statistics. The metrics revealed how far Crytek was pushing the aging Xbox 360 hardware. One combat arena scene showed a frame rate of only 8.6 fps while rendering 6 million polygons and approximately 1,500 draw calls. Another interior scene performed better at 17.2 fps, while displaying around 2 million polygons and over 2,000 draw calls, both of which are exceptionally high for a 7th-generation console title. A third scene from the same interior section showed the frame rate dipping as low as 2 fps.

The debug overlay also highlighted the heavy cost of CryEngine’s advanced visual features. Dynamic shadows appeared to consume a significant portion of the rendering budget, while particle effects, fog systems, and environmental effects placed additional strain on the hardware.

Ryse: Son of Rome was released on November 22, 2013, for the Xbox One. It was followed by a Windows PC release nearly a year later on October 10, 2014.
