Nintendo’s removal of SmileBASIC 4 from the eShop may not be enough to prevent access to the Nintendo Switch 2 jailbreak, as a homebrew developer has pointed to additional potential methods for triggering the exploit. The developer, Gezinе, said another game called Artemis Engine could be used, while a separate method involving a physical game cartridge may also be possible.
In a post on X, Gezine clarified that SmileBASIC 4 isn’t strictly necessary to access the exploit. The developer also explained that the physical cartridge method could allow users to trigger it without updating their console’s firmware to access the eShop.
Gezine also advised against purchasing Artemis Engine specifically for this purpose, warning that save-based exploits could become a poor choice if Nintendo blocks online services soon. The developer didn’t disclose the identity of the physical game involved in the other method.
The comments follow Nintendo’s removal of SmileBASIC 4 from the eShop. The game’s store page now returns a 404 error, following reports that the software could be used in connection with the Switch 2 jailbreak.
The jailbreak, known as ns2jb, was shared by security researcher Sammy Hajhamid and was reported to work on Nintendo Switch 2 firmware version 23.0.1. The development has drawn attention from homebrew, console-modding, and emulation communities.
