The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 6060 is unlikely to match the PS6 GPU, and it may end up arriving in the year 2029, it is claimed.
Known hardware insider KeplerL2 took to the NeoGAF forums to respond to a fellow member who claimed that the PS6 won’t compete with high-end 2025 NVIDIA GPUs like the GeForce RTX 5070ti or higher, and will rather trade blows with the GeForce RTX 6060 as well as mid range RDNA5 cards. In response, the insider said that the GeForce RTX 6060 will launch much later, and, going by recent trends, is unlikely to be as capable as the PS6 GPU.
“6060 will launch much later (and based on recent trends I doubt it will match PS6),” said the insider. They added that during instances of supply shortages, NVIDIA tends to delay the launch of lower end GPUs. According to them, the GeForce RTX 6060 may end up releasing in the year 2029. “When there’s a supply shortage NVIDIA tends to really drag the release of lower end cards,” they mentioned. “There’s a good chance RTX 6060 comes out in 2029.”
Last month, the same insider claimed that the PS6 and the Xbox Helix will have 40 and 56 Teraflops of GPU compute, respectively. “Yeah, it’s 40 for PS6 and 56 for [Xbox] Helix.” A difference of 16 Teraflops would give Microsoft’s next-gen console higher raw GPU compute capabilities than the PS5 successor. However, Teraflops alone do not determine overall gaming performance. GPU architecture, clock speeds, memory bandwidth, cache configuration, ray-tracing capabilities, upscaling technology and other hardware and software features can all affect how a console performs in real-world games. As such, the provided numbers should not be interpreted as a direct indication of the performance differential between the two consoles. Furthermore, in response to a question regarding the possibility of a delay allowing Sony to move its chip to a more efficient manufacturing process, the insider said that both console SoCs have already been “taped out.”
