The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is reportedly experiencing launch issues on Nintendo Switch 2 when Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) is enabled. Players encountering the problem may be able to get the game running by disabling the feature in the console’s settings.
The issue was highlighted by X user PJiggles, who shared a public service announcement advising players to turn off VRR if the remake refuses to launch. This suggests the problem may be a bug that a future update could address.
VRR support on Nintendo Switch 2 is available in both handheld and docked modes, with the latter requiring a compatible HDMI 2.1 display. The feature was extended to TV output through system firmware and dock software updates.
Variable Refresh Rate allows the display to synchronize its refresh rate with the console’s frame output, helping reduce screen tearing and judder when frame rates fluctuate. However, the reported issue suggests that having the feature enabled may interfere with launching the Ocarina of Time remake on some systems.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake launched exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. Developed by Nintendo EPD, the game rebuilds the Nintendo 64 classic with modern graphics while retaining its original story.
The remake introduces expanded environments, dedicated jump controls, dynamic camera tracking, and fully voiced cutscenes, alongside other gameplay refinements.
For now, players unable to launch the game can try disabling VRR through the Switch 2 system settings as a temporary workaround. Nintendo has not announced a patch or confirmed whether a software update will address the reported problem.
