The Onimusha: Way of the Sword demo has received new content, with Capcom adding a second quest to the playable trial ahead of the game’s September 4 release. The updated demo is available today across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, while the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the demo is also now available.
The new quest takes players to the Oni Refuge, a surreal location that provides an early section of the game’s story while introducing additional gameplay mechanics. The area also features a battle against the towering Daidara.
Capcom revealed the new demo content alongside a trailer shown during Gamescom Opening Night Live. The footage focuses on several of the supernatural enemies and boss encounters that players will face in Onimusha: Way of the Sword.
The trailer introduces Ifuu and Burai, a pair of enemies capable of wielding wind and thunder. It also provides a look at protagonist Miyamoto Musashi facing Dokyo and shows gameplay of Musashi using his fully awakened Oni form.
The updated demo is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. It also marks the arrival of the demo on Nintendo Switch 2.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword will launch on September 4 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store. Pre-orders are currently available.
Players who purchase the Standard, Deluxe or Premium Deluxe Edition before September 24 will receive Early Adopter Bonuses. The Standard Edition will be available physically and digitally, while the Deluxe and Premium Deluxe Editions will be offered digitally.
The Deluxe Edition includes the base game alongside additional cosmetics and charms for Musashi. The Premium Deluxe Edition adds further cosmetics for Musashi and his allies, as well as an in-game soundtrack.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is the first new entry in the series in 20 years. The action game returns to a dark fantasy version of Japan, following Miyamoto Musashi as he uses the mystical Oni Gauntlet to fight supernatural enemies invading Edo-period Kyoto.
