The Persona series has surpassed 30 million copies in cumulative worldwide sales, according to Sega Sammy, with the franchise reaching the milestone as it celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2026. The company also provided a breakdown showing the continued growth of the Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5 series.
According to Sega Sammy, Persona 3 has surpassed 5 million copies in cumulative sales, while Persona 4 has exceeded 5.7 million. Persona 5 has become the biggest contributor among the three, surpassing 13 million units sold.
Persona 5 Leads The Series
Persona 5 has played a major role in the franchise’s global expansion since its release in 2016. Sega Sammy said the series’ international reach was strengthened by the release of
Persona 5 Royal in 15 languages, alongside the availability of older Persona titles on additional platforms including PC.
Sega Sammy also reported that approximately 40% of Persona sales by sales location come from North America, with Japan accounting for around 20%, while Europe and Asia each represent approximately 20%. The company said this means overseas sales account for roughly 80% of the franchise’s total sales.
Persona 4 also helped establish the franchise’s broader strategy of expanding beyond numbered RPG releases. Its spin-offs included Persona 4 Golden, Persona 4 Arena, and Persona 4 Dancing All Night, while the series also expanded into anime and music events.
The Persona franchise is now moving into its next stage with Persona 4 Revival, a remake of Persona 4 Golden scheduled for February 2027, alongside Persona 6, which was announced in June 2026.
