Plex has announced a major price increase for its Lifetime Plex Pass subscription, with the one-time purchase set to rise from $249.99 to $749.99 starting July 1, 2026.
In a statement shared with users, the company said the change reflects the long-term value of the software and the ongoing costs associated with maintaining and expanding the platform. Plex noted that it had previously considered removing the Lifetime Plex Pass option entirely in favor of recurring subscription plans, but ultimately decided to keep the offering available for users who prefer a one-time purchase model.
The new pricing will take effect at 12:01 AM UTC on July 1, 2026. Until then, users can still purchase the Lifetime Plex Pass at its current $249.99 price point.
Plex also clarified that existing Lifetime Plex Pass owners will not lose any features or benefits as a result of the pricing update. Monthly and annual Plex Pass subscription plans, along with Remote Watch Pass pricing, will remain unchanged.
Alongside the announcement, the company outlined several features and improvements currently planned for the platform’s future roadmap. Upcoming additions include expanded download functionality with automatic episode downloads and grouping by show, playlist creation and editing support in mobile apps, and the return of music and photo library support across mobile and TV applications.
Plex also confirmed that it is working on support for NFO metadata, additional server and library management tools within mobile apps, audio improvements such as dialog boosting and loudness normalization, enhanced video transcoding features, and IPv6 support.
According to Plex, the company’s long-term focus remains centered on improving the experience for users managing personal libraries of movies, TV shows, music, and other media content. The company added that community feedback gathered through surveys, forums, and social media continues to shape its development priorities moving forward.
