Nintendo’s upcoming role-playing game, Pokemon Winds & Waves, will offer the biggest variety of new Pokemon yet.
Known Pokemon insider CentroLeaks took to Twitter/X to claim that Pokemon Winds & Waves will feature the highest amount of new Pokemon ever. According to them, the number that is floating around is around 300 new Pokemon/forms.
Additionally, the leaker mentioned that Pokemon Winds & Waves’s new battle mechanic will introduce special weather forms for some Pokemon along the lines of Megas/Gigantamax.
While 300 Pokemon/forms sounds massive, the insider claims to have independently verified the information with multiple sources, and each of them have heard similar things about the high Pokemon count. As such, they find the leak to be credible and very likely to be real.
The Pokemon Company officially announced Pokemon Winds & Waves during the 30th anniversary Pokemon Presents broadcast on February 27, 2026. The new titles are scheduled to launch in 2027 and will be released exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. Set in a tropical archipelago inspired by Southeast Asia, Winds and Waves takes players on a journey across a chain of islands. Additionally, the games hint at a fully explorable 3D underwater environment, suggesting a renewed focus on traversal and interaction with the surroundings. Players begin their journey with a new category of starter Pokemon. The initial trio includes Browt, a Grass type; Pombon, a Fire type; and Gecqua, a Water type.
The games introduce an expansive open world built around windswept islands and a vast, shimmering ocean. According to the official description, “These new titles feature an open world to explore, with beautiful windswept islands and a vast ocean with glittering waves.” The setting is described as a place where Pokemon live in harmony with a lush ecosystem shaped by sea and wind. Players will travel across islands, navigate open waters, and work alongside Pokemon to overcome environmental challenges. The official overview notes that during the adventure, players will “team up with all kinds of Pokemon to overcome both the difficult road ahead and even the forces of nature that block your path at times.”
