Sony has released PS4 firmware update 14.02, bringing security fixes to its last-generation console just two days after a similar update arrived for the PS5. The patch notes are brief, with Sony providing no details about the vulnerabilities addressed.
According to the official patch notes, Sony has “made some security fixes to the system software.” No other changes, improvements, or new features are mentioned in the update.
The timing of PS4 firmware update 14.02 is particularly interesting because a jailbreak targeting firmware version 14.00 was recently released. As we previously reported, version 14.00 was the latest available firmware when the exploit became public, allowing users to run modified software while still having access to online services.
The jailbreak also allowed users to run cheat scripts in multiplayer games such as GTA Online. This created problems for legitimate players, as those using the exploit could interfere with online matches and disrupt the experience for others.
It remains unclear whether Sony’s latest security update specifically targets the vulnerability used by the jailbreak. The company hasn’t identified which exploits were fixed, so there’s no confirmation that firmware 14.02 prevents the previously released jailbreak from working.
Sony also released PS5 system software update 26.07-14.22.00 two days earlier. Much like the PS4 patch, its official notes mention only security fixes, without providing additional information about the changes.
PS4 owners can download firmware version 14.02 through the console’s system software update settings. Sony hasn’t announced any other improvements or adjustments included in this release.
