Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced a new Japan-exclusive PS5 Digital Edition in Midnight Black, launching on November 19, 2026, for ¥55,000, including tax. The console will be accompanied by a matching Midnight Black Disc Drive, priced at ¥11,980. Pre-orders for both products will begin at participating Japanese retailers and online stores on October 20.
The new PS5 model follows the same regional restrictions as the existing Japanese-only Digital Edition. It can only be used with PlayStation accounts set to Japanese as the system language and Japan as the country or region. The console features a black finish designed to complement Sony’s existing Midnight Black accessories, including the PlayStation Portal Remote Player.
The console comes with an 825GB SSD and does not include a built-in disc drive. Players can download compatible PS5 and PS4 games through the Japanese PlayStation Store or purchase the separately sold Midnight Black Disc Drive to play physical games. Pairing the disc drive with the console requires an internet connection.
Sony has also confirmed that the console qualifies for its Japanese PS5 purchase campaign, which extends the standard one-year manufacturer’s warranty to two years for eligible purchases registered during the campaign period. The offer runs until March 31, 2027, and requires registration.
