The update today is more of a security and stability fix as we have verified through the patch notes. The approximate download size of this update should be around 1.2 GB.
PS5 System Update 23.02-08.40 Patch Notes
Main features in this system software update:
- We’ve made some security fixes to the system software.
- We’ve improved system software performance and stability.
- We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens.
Sony recently released a new PS5 revision that appears to remove the Disc Drive in favor of an expansion that can be added to bring this functionality later. While it is not officially called PS5 Slim, the design is smaller than the regular console leading many fans to call it the Slim variant of the PS5.
This new revision of the console also appears to lose the Vertical Stand in favor of a paid one. There are other internal changes that are related to manufacture rather than upgrade of the hardware. The PS5 Slim was released last year and appears to be the default system now, phasing out the original version of the console.
That is the extent of the changes that are mentioned in the new system software update 23.02-08.40 patch notes for PS5.
