Remedy Discusses Alan Wake 2 On PS5 Pro, Stresses Image Quality Over Resolution

Remedy Entertainment has dropped some hints regarding how its survival horror game, Alan Wake 2, runs on Sony’s mid-gen console, the PS5 Pro.

Thomas Puha, Head of Communications at Remedy Entertainment, took to the gaming enthusiast forum Reset Era to state that he can’t confirm anything with regards to details on Alan Wake 2 on PS5 Pro, though he did share that he believes image quality matters more than resolution.

Puha further stated that Remedy Entertainment will drop some details on the PS5 Pro version of Alan Wake 2 in the coming weeks, along with some assets too. He believes the PS5 Pro version of the game will be a pleasant surprise for fans, though he added that it’s hard to tell these days. After the reveal of the PS5 Pro, Puha took it to X/Twitter to tease that the game looked “nice” running on Sony’s upcoming hardware upgrade.

Based on his statement, it appears that the PS5 Pro version of Alan Wake 2 may feature ray tracing in some shape or form. Based on Digital Foundry’s recent analysis of available footage from the game running on the mid-gen console, it was found that Remedy Entertainment’s survival horror title runs at a resolution of 864p at a frame rate of 60fps in Performance mode and a resolution of 1260p and a frame rate of 30fps in Graphics mode, which is the same as the resolution and performance metrics on the base PS5. The Digital Foundry staff presumed the PS5 Pro footage they analyzed was using PSSR and not the FSR in effect on base PS5. According to them, the 60 fps mode on PS5 Pro uses SSR for reflections, though ray-traced reflections may be in effect in the 30 fps mode.

Meanwhile, as per Digital Foundry, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart appears to be running between an internal resolution of 1440p and 1800p at 60 fps on the PS5 Pro, which is roughly equivalent to the PS5 Quality Mode at 40fps. Based on the analysis, the Pro is running the game at the same settings as those seen in the PS5 Performance Mode, and it is using PSSR to bring the resolution up to 4K.
