PS5 Pro Appears To Run Alan Wake 2 At 840p In 60 FPS Mode, Other Games Also Analyzed
The PS5 Pro appears to run Remedy Entertainment’s Alan Wake 2 at a resolution of 840p in its 60 fps Performance mode.
During episode 180 of Digital Foundry’s Direct Weekly, the resolution and frame rate of several titles have been analyzed when running on PS5 Pro, including the likes of Alan Wake 2 and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Based on the analysis, Remedy Entertainment’s survival horror title runs at a resolution of 864p at a frame rate of 60fps in Performance mode and a resolution of 1260p and a frame rate of 30fps in Graphics mode, which is the same as the resolution and performance metrics on the base PS5. The Digital Foundry staff presumed the PS5 Pro footage they analyzed is using PSSR and not the FSR on base PS5. The 60fps mode on PS5 Pro is using SSR for reflections, though ray traced reflections may be in effect in the 30 fps mode.
Meanwhile, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart appears to be running between an internal resolution of 1440p and 1800p at 60 fps on the PS5 Pro, which is roughly equivalent to the PS5 Quality Mode at 40fps. The Pro is running the game at the same settings as those seen the PS5 Performance Mode, and it is using PSSR to bring the resolution up to 4K.
Furthermore, The Last of Part 2 runs at an internal resolution of 1440p at 60fps in its PS5 Pro Mode, which is essentially the same as PS5 running the game in Performance Mode. However, the image quality on the PS5 Pro has been improved due to PSSR.
Horizon Forbidden West didn’t appear to be running at a native 4K. The Digital Foundry staff presumed that it isn’t using PSSR, but it was difficult to tell either way. The PS5 Pro does run the game with higher detail than base PS5, however.
Hogwarts Legacy runs on PS5 Pro with higher quality ray traced reflections compared to the base PS5, though there is some visual noise in the background. RT shadows may be used alongside SSR, though it still appears to be an overall improvement over base PS5. The game’s footage appears to run at 30 fps, though it is expected to have a 60 fps mode much like the base PS5 version.
Gram Turismo 7 adds RT reflections in-game on PS5 Pro, and they appear to be quarter resolution i.e. 1080p. The 8k mode appears to run at a lower native resolution i.e. 1188p, in the PS5 Pro footage, which is then likely using PSSR to bring it up to 4K. The ray traced reflections look better than those seen in Forza Motorsport.
Lastly, Dragon’s Dogma 2 looks to be running at 60fps on the new console, and it may also be taking advantage of PSSR. Assassins Creed Shadows appears to be running at a resolution of 864p at 60 fps.
