Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 remakes are reportedly not currently in development and are unlikely to release within the next five years, according to longtime Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem. The claim comes in response to recent rumours suggesting that both games could be next in Capcom’s remake programme.
Dusk Golem disputed those reports, saying that Resident Evil 5 could happen eventually but is not currently being developed. According to the insider, Capcom greenlit several Resident Evil projects a few months ago, and none of them were Resident Evil 5.
The insider also claimed that the teams that could potentially work on such a project are currently occupied with other games. Dusk Golem acknowledged that a project could theoretically have been cancelled and replaced, but described that scenario as highly unlikely based on information they have received.
Addressing the possibility of either remake arriving soon, Dusk Golem was more definitive, stating, “I promise you there’s not an RE5 or RE6 Remake releasing in the next 5 years at least.”
Resident Evil 5 originally launched in 2009 and shifted the series further towards action, following Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar as they investigated a biological weapons threat in Africa. Resident Evil 6 followed in 2012 with four interconnected campaigns and an even greater emphasis on action and large-scale set pieces.
Capcom subsequently returned to its earlier games with a series of modern remakes, beginning with Resident Evil 2 in 2019 and continuing with Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4. However, according to Dusk Golem’s latest claim, neither Resident Evil 5 nor Resident Evil 6 is currently among the projects being developed.
