Resonance A Plague Tale Legacy Reveals New Story Details Focused on Sophia

by Greg Martin

Asobo Studio has shared new story and gameplay details for Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, placing a strong focus on Sophia as the central character. This was revealed in a development update, described as the first episode titled “Sophia’s Story,” which outlines both her origins and the broader direction of the upcoming title.

Set roughly 15 years before the events of A Plague Tale: Innocence and Requiem, the game explores Sophia’s early life, including her childhood in a plunderer camp led by her father, Alec. The narrative follows her at the age of 22 as she embarks on a dangerous treasure hunt after being cast out by her mentor, a journey that appears tied closely to unresolved elements from her past.

The developers describe Sophia as a hardened and determined figure, known as the “Scorpion of the Seas,” shaped by a violent upbringing and defined by her reluctance to show vulnerability. Her story centers on confronting personal trauma and uncovering the source of a lingering evil linked to the Macula, suggesting connections to the wider series.

From a gameplay and design perspective, the studio points to a shift in tone compared to her appearance in Requiem. Sophia is portrayed as younger and less refined, reflected in a more rugged visual design featuring worn fabrics and practical gear suited for combat, exploration, and climbing. Her combat style and movement are said to emphasize agility and ferocity, aligning with her background as a fighter raised in a harsh environment.

Asobo Studio notes that development is in its final stages, with ongoing testing and balancing aimed at delivering what it describes as a challenging experience. The story itself is set against the backdrop of the Mediterranean Sea, with themes of identity, trust, and survival shaping Sophia’s journey.
