Spiders, the French studio known for developing GreedFall and other story-driven RPGs, has confirmed it is shutting down after being liquidated. The announcement was made directly by the studio, bringing an abrupt end to its operations after more than a decade in the industry.
In a statement shared publicly, the developer said, “After a long period without clear answers, we have received confirmation that Spiders is being liquidated.” The studio added, “This means the company as a whole no longer exists. We’ll cease our functions immediately,” confirming that all internal activity has now stopped.
Despite the closure, some remaining content will still see release. According to Spiders, “The planned DLC will release via Nacon, and then– well, that’s it.” The studio also directed players to contact its parent company for any future support, stating that it will no longer be able to respond to inquiries.
Founded in 2008 and based in Paris, Spiders built a reputation for developing mid-budget action RPGs with an emphasis on narrative choice and world-building. The studio was acquired by Bigben Interactive, now known as Nacon, in 2019. Its most recent release was GreedFall 2: The Dying World in March 2026.
The original GreedFall launched in September 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, later receiving enhanced versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S in 2021. Set in a 17th century-inspired fantasy world, the game followed a diplomat navigating political conflict and a spreading plague, combining combat, stealth, and diplomacy systems.
With the studio now dissolved, Spiders’ catalog remains as its lasting contribution, closing a chapter for a developer that carved out a niche within the RPG space.
