Saber Interactive reportedly replaced former lead writer Stella Sacco with ChatGPT during the development of its upcoming title, Rideshare “Stimulator”.
Stella Sacco, former lead writer on Saber Interactive and UNIGINE’s upcoming Rideshare “Stimulator”, took to BlueSky to share that she was replaced by ChatGPT during the game’s development in December, 2023. She also revealed that the developer also used AI to generate all the passenger voices featured in the title.
However, given the lack of disclosure over the use of AI during development on the Steam store page for Rideshare “Stimulator”, Sacco noted that either Saber Interactive changed direction at some point or that it decided to be dishonest about it.
“I didn’t even see this had been announced,” said Sacco. “I was lead writer on this one! And Saber replaced me with ChatGPT midway through development. All the passenger voices were AI too. Either they changed direction at some point or they’re not disclosing it on Steam.”
Furthermore, in response to a comment about Rideshare “Stimulator” taking 3 years to get close to release despite Saber Interactive transforming it into AI slop, Sacco said that she also found the game’s title “rancid.”
Back in March, Crimson Desert violated Steam’s AI disclosure policy by not revealing the use of AI in generating some of its art assets. During their playthroughs of the game, Reddit users Rex_Spy and Due-Perspective9206 spotted artwork that seemed AI generated. The art in question includes a series of in-game paintings. Valve requires developers to disclose whether generative AI was used in the creation process of titles distributed on Steam. However, no such mention was made on Crimson Desert’s store page.
Earlier in January, Valve updated how Steam handles developer disclosures regarding the use of AI. Instead of expanding its restrictions on AI usage, the platform narrowed and refined its focus, separating AI-based efficiency tools used during development from AI-generated content that ships with a game.
