The Lord of the Rings: War in the North Legacy Edition is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch. The re-release costs $19.99, with a launch discount reducing the price to $17.99.
The Legacy Edition brings back the 2011 action RPG with support for local and online cooperative play, including shared and split-screen options. The game can run at up to 4K resolution and 60fps on supported hardware.
Originally developed by Snowblind Studios, The Lord of the Rings: War in the North follows an original story taking place alongside the events of The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. Players form a new Fellowship consisting of a Ranger, Dwarf and Elf as they fight against Agandaûr, a Black Númenórean serving Sauron.
The story takes place away from the main journey of Frodo and Samwise, focusing instead on the conflict taking place in the northern regions of Middle-earth. Agandaûr has gathered a large force in the ruins of Fornost, forcing the three heroes to confront Sauron’s forces and protect the North.
The original release was designed around cooperative gameplay, with three-player co-op forming a central part of the experience. The Legacy Edition expands the available options with both local and online multiplayer.
War in the North was released in 2011 and received recognition for its atmosphere and cooperative combat, although its repetitive gameplay and relatively linear structure resulted in mixed reviews.
