Senior Staff Level Designer of God of War Joins Microsoft’s First Party Studio The Initiative

Microsoft’s new first-party studio, The Initiative, just added some brand new talent with the addition of Senior Staff Level Designer, Chris O’Neill. His last work was on the critically acclaimed God of War.

The Initiative is a new game studio that was formally announced by Microsoft at their E3 2018 press conference. It is hiring top industry talent with many of the former Naughty Dog, Rockstar Games, Sony Santa Monica Studio and Crystal Dynamics developers joining the studio. The future of this game studio sounds incredibly promising and with every new game developer joining the studio, it is going to get even better.

God of War has won numerous game of the year awards for Sony Santa Monica Studio

The most recent addition to The Initiative is a big one since this developer just worked as a Senior Staff Level Designer on God of War,Chris O’Neill. He joined The Initiative in January 2019 and has been worked there for around one month now. It should be exciting to see what he can work on next at The Initiative.

Darrell Gallagher is the Studio Head of The Initiative and at E3 2018, he cited the creation of the studio for offering “storytelling, world-building and creative exploration.”

“The foundation we have in place for The Initiative is unique in many ways. We’ve been given the freedom to explore, try new things and operate like an independent studio, with the backing from one of the biggest companies in the world to do something bold and different. The industry is headed in an exciting direction, and we see an opportunity to create amazing new game experiences of the future, ” said Gallagher.

“Our immediate focus is expanding our team to bring that vision to life, and we are incredibly excited for what the future holds for The Initiative.”

Microsoft has made several studio acquisitions in the last couple of months from Ninja Theory, Playground Games to Obsidian Entertainment. The Initiative is their own first-party studio joining the likes of The Coalition and 343 Industries.

Spiderman isn’t made by a Sony developer
Horizon Zero Dawn got stomped by Witcher 3 and BOTW
Naughty Dogs best talent all left which is why Lost Legacy flopped

        Days Gone will flop

Ghost of T is made by Sucker Punch, mediocre developer

Detroit not made by a Sony dev

Death Stranding not made by a Sony dev and will flop

Astro Bot is a VR game, good but you need a 300$ VR set to play it, also Sony Japan made Knack

More VR games and baseball. VR is fine but I’m not paying 300$ bucks for it

You know things are bad when Sony fans have to use non Sony owned devs to supplement their line up lol

(Exclusive) “Spiderman isn’t made by a Sony developer”
(Hardly Meta 89 7.9 million since start of 2018) “Horizon Zero Dawn got stomped by Witcher 3” (Multi-plat) “and BOTW” (to kiddie for me.
(LOL Nope just some talent as perusal in the industry after a project wraps) “Naughty Dogs best talent all left which is why Lost Legacy flopped” (DLC? DLC? Hahaahahah OK)

“Days Gone will flop” (who knows it’s not out, That’s like me saying Crackdown 3 is gonna flop)

“Ghost of T is made by Sucker Punch, mediocre developer” (wrong)

“Detroit not made by a Sony dev” (Exclusive)

“Death Stranding not made by a Sony dev and will flop” (Exclusive) (who knows it’s not out, That’s like me saying Crackdown 3 is gonna flop)

“Astro Bot is a VR game, good but you need a 300$ VR set to play it, also Sony Japan made Knack” (It’s an awesome option if you want to but at least it not forced like Kinect was) (Knack 2 is a great Kiddie game)

“More VR games and baseball. VR is fine but I’m not paying 300$ bucks for it” (It’s an awesome option if you want to but at least it not forced like Kinect was)

“You know things are bad when Sony fans have to use non Sony owned devs to supplement their line up lol”

You know it’s Nuclear when MS fans keep bringing up 4K over and over over checkerboard rendering that is of diminishing returns and new studios that have yet to turn out anything this gen, which is expected as they were just acquired. And ignore the fact that 6 years in XB1 should have a flood of highly rated exclusives and we have yet to see that.

LOL uz Salty as F & running scared!

Another cog for Dazza “Lara Killer” Gallagher to waste on making more sub-par GaaS trash for another sub-par Xbox console. Looks like the staff at Windows Central are in need of crumbs from their MS handlers when they’re resorting to trawling LinkedIn.

It will be really nice to see what The Initiative bring for next-gen. They have accumulated the talent capable of bringing an experience akin to and sharing attributes of Uncharted, Tomb Raider, The Last of Us and God of War. Hopefully we will get a glimpse of what’s coming from the studio at E3, just to build excitement, and we won’t have to wait until way into next-gen to see something.
