The Simpsons creator Matt Groening has hinted at the existence of a remastered version of Radical Entertainment’s 2003 action-adventure game, The Simpson: Hit & Run.
During an interview with Empire at D23, the ultimate Disney fan event, series creator Matt Groening was asked if there will be another The Simpsons: Hit & Run game, to which he responded by hinting at the previously rumored remastered version. “I think the original game is coming back in some form,” he said.
Groening’s statement appeared to have been covered up promptly by The Simpsons showrunner Matt Selman, who briefly added to the former’s remarks by saying, “Or not.” This exchange suggests that the series creator may have accidentally slipped up during the interview, and that a remastered version of The Simpsons: Hit & Run may be announced sometime soon.
Back in March, during an interview with PEOPLE, Selman acknowledged that reviving or remastering The Simpsons: Hit & Run would not be simple. Rights issues and corporate logistics often make projects like this complicated. That said, he mentioned that the door isn’t completely closed. “Nothing is set in stone. But my quote about Hit & Run would be, ‘Never say never,’” Selman said. “Because we know people love it. We know they want it, so that’s good. If we know people want it, never say never.”
Earlier in February, The Simpsons: Hit & Run developer Radical Entertainment was renamed to New Radical Games alongside a relaunch of its website. The site prominently highlights two of the studio’s prior titles, Prototype and The Simpsons Hit and Run, hinting at the possibility of both games getting the remaster treatment. Among its services, New Radical Games lists porting games to new platforms and remastering games by enhancing visuals audio, and gameplay to revive titles for modern hardware and appeal to both new and longtime players.
