Skies Of Arcadia Remaster Rumored To Be In Development

A remaster for Sega and Overworks’ 2000 role-playing game, Skies of Arcadia, is currently in development, based on the latest rumor.

Speaking during the latest episode of The XboxEra Podcast, Shpeshal Nick stated that Skies of Arcadia will be getting a remaster at some point. He also claimed to have seen screenshots from the remastered version of the game.

According to Nick, whether the project will see the light of day ultimately depends on Sega. He didn’t mention any specific platforms, but it’s safe to say that the game would be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC. Sega has yet to confirm or deny the rumor, though we’re inclined to believe that a re-release of Skies on Arcadia on modern platforms can only be a positive thing.

Skies of Arcadia is a 2000 role-playing game developed by Overworks and published by Sega for the Sega Dreamcast. Later on, in 2003, the game was ported over to the GameCube. It features a young air pirate named Vyse, who, alongside his friends, is looking to prevent the Valuan Empire from reviving ancient weapons that have the power to end the world.

By using traditional Japanese role-playing game mechanics like turn-based combat and experience points, Skies of Arcadia places more of an emphasis on exploration. The gameplay is reminiscent of early 3D Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games; players engage enemies in turn-based combat to gain experience points that strengthen their characters.

Six regions make up the overworld, which is navigable in three dimensions by flying airships. “Discoveries,” or secret locations, grant the player additional advantages. The player must use exploration to fill in the world map, which is initially blank. The player can also hire characters they come across while exploring, adding them to the staff of the ship or base and giving exploration and combat additional advantages.
