Nintendo’s action role-playing and third-person shooter, Splatoon Raiders, is now among the top 10 user rated games of all-time on Metacritic.
As of writing, Splatoon Raiders is ranked #6 in the list of top 10 all-time best full game releases by user score on Metacritic, with a rating of 9.3 out of 10. Other prominent titles on the list include The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Resident Evil Requiem, Silent Hill 2 (2001), The Last of Us, Chrono Trigger, and Gran Turismo 4.

As far as reviews from game critics are concerned, Splatoon Raiders has received an aggregate Metascore of 81 out of 100. In comparison, it appears that the recently released spinoff has earned more appreciation from its fan base. While critics may have preferred a more conventional new entry, the game’s producer Seita Inoue recently explained why Nintendo chose to go in a different direction.
According to Inoue, the development team wanted to explore a different style of gameplay after spending more than a decade building and supporting the main series. “We’ve been going full speed ahead for over 11 years since the series’ launch, developing and updating three titles along the way. We thought it might be interesting to create something with a slightly different approach to gameplay, where you can really savor the action on your own. Splatoon isn’t just about competitive play; it also includes cooperative modes like Salmon Run and a single-player Story Mode.”
Splatoon Riders was released on July 23, 2026, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2.
