Nintendo has announced a new Star Fox title for Nintendo Switch 2, set to launch on June 25. Revealed during a recent Nintendo Direct presentation, the game reimagines the classic Star Fox 64 with updated visuals, expanded gameplay systems, and new features tailored for the upcoming hardware.
The new release presents a cinematic take on the original experience, featuring redesigned characters, reworked environments, and fully voiced story sequences. Players will once again step into the role of Fox McCloud, joined by Peppy Hare, Falco Lombardi, and Slippy Toad, as they attempt to stop Andross from taking control of the Lylat System.
Gameplay retains the series’ signature aerial combat, with players piloting the Arwing through a variety of missions across different planets and environments. Familiar maneuvers such as barrel rolls, boosts, and somersaults return, while branching paths encourage multiple playthroughs by altering objectives and mission routes based on player performance.
Several modes will be available at launch. Campaign Mode offers a full story experience with selectable difficulty levels, while Challenge Mode introduces additional objectives and replay opportunities for completed stages. A new Battle Mode supports 4 vs 4 multiplayer matches, allowing up to eight players to compete in team-based dogfights across multiple scenarios.
The Switch 2 version also introduces new control and social features. Players can utilize Joy-Con 2 mouse functionality for more precise aiming, with the option to split roles between pilot and gunner in cooperative play. GameChat integration adds interactive elements such as character avatars and augmented reality filters, enhancing communication during multiplayer sessions.
With its blend of classic mechanics and modern updates, Star Fox on Nintendo Switch 2 aims to revisit a well-known entry in the series while expanding its scope for a new generation of players.
