Star Ocean The Second Story R Switch 2 is now available digitally on Nintendo Switch 2, bringing the acclaimed remake of the classic RPG to Nintendo’s latest console.
Square Enix confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 release does not include an upgrade path for owners of the original Nintendo Switch version. Save data also cannot be transferred between the two versions.
To coincide with the new release, the Nintendo Switch version of the game is currently available at 50% off.
Originally released as a remake of the second entry in the Star Ocean series, the game combines 2D pixel character sprites with 3D environments using a 2.5D visual style. The remake also introduces updated battle mechanics, full English and Japanese voice acting, fast travel, and the option to switch between original and rearranged music.
The story follows a Federation officer who is transported to a mysterious planet during Space Date 366. After meeting a young girl, he becomes caught up in a journey to save her people as an ancient prophecy begins to unfold. Players can choose between different protagonists, with story events and perspectives varying depending on that choice.
