Star Racer will launch on Nintendo Switch on September 3, 2026, with pre-orders now available through the Nintendo eShop. Whatnot Games and Crossbridge Games have confirmed the retro-inspired combat racer will bring its high-speed races, aerial combat and track creation tools to Nintendo’s console.
Following its earlier PC release, Star Racer combines traditional racing with weapon-based combat and gravity-defying sections. Players will race across a range of hazardous environments while managing their energy between boosting and healing, with the goal of surviving the competition and reaching the finish line.
The tracks take racers through varied environments, including icy surfaces, lava-covered courses and chaotic roads filled with hazards. Mines, turrets and other obstacles can disrupt races, forcing players to react quickly while also dealing with rival racers.
Star Racer also features an online Track Editor that allows players to create their own circuits. Custom tracks can include hazards and be uploaded for other players to discover and race on, expanding the selection of courses beyond the game’s built-in tracks.
The game includes Event Races that introduce different challenges beyond standard competitions. These can involve racing through lava-filled environments, dealing with unexpected threats or completing precision-based break-the-target challenges.
Local multiplayer is also supported, with up to 4 players able to compete through split-screen races. This allows players to challenge up to three friends on the same Nintendo Switch.
The soundtrack features music from Mason Lieberman and Jules Conroy, alongside selected tracks composed by Grant Kirkhope. Kirkhope is known for his work on games including Banjo-Kazooie, GoldenEye 007 and Mario + Rabbids.
Star Racer is available to pre-order now on the Nintendo eShop ahead of its September 3 release. The Nintendo Switch version follows the game’s initial PC launch and brings its combat racing, aerial sections, custom track creation and local multiplayer to Nintendo’s platform.
