Steam Appears to Leak Achievements for Kingdom Hearts IV, Persona 6 and Dozens of Unannounced Games

by Ali Haider

Steam appears to have suffered a major achievement data leak that has exposed information tied to dozens of unannounced and upcoming games, including Kingdom Hearts IV, Persona 6, and several other unrevealed projects.

The issue was highlighted after achievement lists for games that should reportedly have remained private became accessible through Steam’s API. Exophase owner x3sphere said the site’s systems subsequently scanned the information, resulting in a large number of previously unseen games appearing on the platform.

According to x3sphere, the incident appears to have originated on Valve’s end. “Seems like a possible screw up on Valve’s end, a bunch of games with achievements that should be private are accessible through the API right now and that’s why they got scanned into the site,” the Exophase owner explained.

He added that Exophase normally does not encounter games without an actual name in its achievement data, but numerous such entries appeared during the incident. When a game has an unknown name, Exophase assigns its AppID as the displayed name.

Dozens Of Games Appear In The Leak

The leaked achievement data reportedly covers a large selection of announced, upcoming and completely unannounced projects. Among the most notable entries are Kingdom Hearts IV, Persona 6, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, Attack on Titan 3, Gears of War E-Day, Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, Silent Hill: Townfall and Stranger Than Heaven.

Other entries include Control Resonant, Ace Combat 8, Danganronpa 2X2, Fate/Extra Record, Judas, Lords of the Fallen II, Mega Man Dual Override, Minecraft Dungeons 2, Metro 2039, Persona 4 Revival, Squadron 42, Turok Origins and Tales of Eternia Remastered.

The data also appears to contain projects that have not been publicly announced, including an Avengers game, a potential Balatro sequel or spin-off, a new Dune game, a Nickelodeon life-sim project, a Sea of Thieves sequel or spin-off, a Sonic game, a Slime Rancher game, a Twin Peaks game and a Walking Dead collection.

Several other entries are associated with established franchises, including Warhammer, Raiden Fighters, Stellaris, Shrek, Toem and Heroes of Newerth.

Achievement Lists Could Contain Spoilers

The incident is potentially more significant than a simple list of unrevealed games because achievement descriptions can contain information about game content, characters, locations and story events.

The leak contains major story spoilers for some of the affected games. Players who want to experience upcoming titles without knowing details about their stories should therefore be cautious about searching through the leaked achievement information.

The appearance of these achievement lists does not necessarily mean every project is close to release, and the status of some games remains unclear. The Exophase owner specifically noted that the information became visible because achievements that should have been private were apparently accessible through the Steam API.
