An unreleased AAA 2D fighting game appears to be undergoing quality assurance and playtesting ahead of its official announcement, with competitive fighting game players recruited for paid testing sessions in Culver City, California.
Good Gamer Group, through research and playtesting company Ten/O, was seeking competitive players for four hour in person sessions scheduled for September 14 and 15, 2026. Selected participants were being offered $250 for taking part in the testing.
The recruitment specifically targeted players who rank within the top 25% of a major 2D fighting game. Players with experience in Street Fighter 6, Guilty Gear Strive, Granblue Fantasy Versus and The King of Fighters were specifically sought for the test.
The recruitment notice described the project as an “unreleased AAA title” and said participants would be able to play the game and provide feedback directly to its development team. The application window was short lived, however, as Ten/O said it had already received more than enough applications and removed the application link.
Not every applicant will necessarily be selected for the sessions, according to Ten/O.
Could It Be A New Capcom Or Injustice Game
The identity of the developer and publisher behind the fighting game was not disclosed. Its description as a 2D AAA fighting game has nevertheless led to speculation about established franchises that could fit the project.
Rumors have previously suggested that Capcom could be developing a new Capcom vs. SNK game, while NetherRealm Studios has also been linked to potential development of Injustice 3. Neither project has been officially confirmed as the game being tested.
A new Capcom vs. SNK would bring together characters from Capcom’s Street Fighter franchise and SNK’s The King of Fighters series, while an Injustice sequel would continue NetherRealm’s DC Comics fighting game franchise.
The playtest itself does not identify the game, so there is currently no confirmation that either Capcom vs. SNK or Injustice 3 is involved. The recruitment does, however, indicate that an undisclosed AAA 2D fighting game is far enough into development to be tested by experienced competitive players.
