The launch of Valve Corporation’s new Virtual Reality (VR) headset, the Steam Frame, is imminent, as the company has just added relevant emulation and translation software to Steam.
Extended Reality (XR) specialist Brad Lynch aka SadlyItsBradley took to Twitter/X to share that Valve’s Android to Linux translator, known as Lepton, and Valve Corporation’s x86 to ARM emulator, called FEX, have both been added to the Steam back-end, strongly indicating that the the launch of Steam Frame is imminent.
The new software will play a vital role in making the Steam library compatible with the new VR headset. Valve has also added a Steam Frame ARM64 compatibility list (via SadlyItsBradley) to Steam. The application is currently hidden from the public, likely until the Steam Frame launch.
Meanwhile, according to SteamDB (via HardwareSteam on Twitter/X), Half-Life: Alyx just received a major update, suggesting that ARM64 compatibility has been added to the game.
The Steam Frame recently received certification from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The device is simply described as a “VR Headset” manufactured by Valve Corporation. The certification was granted on July 29, 2026, following an application originally submitted on May 13, 2026.
As expected from a modern standalone VR headset, the Steam Frame supports a wide range of wireless technologies. The filings include numerous test reports, SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) evaluations, antenna reports, and other regulatory documents. However, nearly all of the most revealing materials, including the user manual, external photos, internal photos, and block diagrams, remain under confidentiality until November 10, 2026, 180 days after the date the application was submitted.
FCC certification is typically one of the final regulatory hurdles before a consumer electronics product reaches the market. Given that Valve Corporation has now secured certification, an official announcement could arrive within the coming weeks, with a release potentially following before the confidential FCC documents are unsealed in November. The company has only confirmed a summer 2026 launch window thus far.
