SEGA and RGG Studio have revealed several key characters and their cast members for Stranger Than Heaven, the upcoming action-adventure game launching on January 15, 2027. The story follows Makoto Daito across five Japanese cities between 1915 and 1965 as he searches for a place to call home.
Daito, portrayed by Yu Shirota, is half-Japanese and half-American and travels to Japan after facing persecution in America. During the voyage, he meets merchant Orpheus and Yu Shinjo, a half-Japanese, half-British man who becomes his lifelong friend.
Shinjo is portrayed by Dean Fujioka, while Orpheus is played by Snoop Dogg. The globe-trotting merchant discovers Daito aboard his ship and teaches him about life in Japan while recognising his musical talent.
Other characters include Heigo Yashima, a merchant from Kokura portrayed by Akio Otsuka, and café waitress Tae Matsumoto, played by Moeka Hoshi. Tori Kelly portrays Suzy Day, a singer who begins pursuing a career in show business after meeting Daito.
The game’s cast also includes Satoshi Fujihara of OFFICIAL HIGE DANDISM as Takashi, Daito’s sworn brother and a gifted pianist, and Ado as Keiko Shirai, described as the diva of wartime Osaka.
Late actor Bunta Sugawara will also appear as Genzo Iwaki, the influential boss of Kure. SEGA received permission from Sugawara’s family to include him, while RGG Studio used archival footage and photographs provided by Toei Company to create his character design. Takashi Ukaji provides the character’s voice.
Tupac also appears as Amaru, a man hiding in Japan. His portrayal was created with permission and supervision from his estate, Amaru Entertainment, using archival footage and photographs without AI. His voice actor has not yet been announced.
Other cast members include Takaya Kuroda as craftsman Takeo Godai, Yasukaze Motomiya as yakuza Tetsuya Hama, and Daisuke Shiba of Mogurider as nightclub worker Kimura.
Show business is also a major theme in Stranger Than Heaven, with a new video detailing how Daito finds musical inspiration, creates songs and promotes shows.
Stranger Than Heaven will launch on Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Steam and PlayStation 5. Pre-orders are now open, with physical and digital pre-orders including the Dosu: Kagekiri DLC weapon.
