The 2026 Street Fighter movie has surpassed the original 1994 adaptation at the US box office, earning $57.4 million domestically compared to its predecessor’s $33.4 million. However, the new film is still struggling to justify its $82 million production budget, with worldwide earnings currently sitting at $99.1 million.
Street Fighter earned another $2.2 million during its fourth three-day weekend in North American theaters, representing a 40.2% decline from the previous weekend. That marks the film’s strongest weekend hold so far, despite losing 1,105 theaters on Friday.
For comparison, Mortal Kombat 2 earned $2 million during its equivalent weekend earlier this year, dropping 67% from the previous weekend.
The Street Fighter 2026 box office total now stands at $57.4 million domestically, with current projections suggesting it could finish its North American theatrical run at approximately $60 million.
Although the new adaptation has comfortably exceeded the original film’s domestic earnings, the worldwide comparison is considerably closer.
The 2026 release has grossed $99.1 million globally, consisting of $57.4 million from domestic theaters and another $41.7 million from international markets. The original Street Fighter, released in 1994, finished with approximately $99.4 million worldwide, including $33.4 million domestically and $66 million internationally.
That leaves the new adaptation just $300,000 behind the original’s lifetime worldwide total.
The difference in production costs is much larger. The 2026 film was made for a reported $82 million, more than twice the $35 million budget of the 1994 adaptation.
While the original Street Fighter was considered a commercial success despite receiving negative reviews, the new film faces a more difficult financial situation. Its worldwide box office earnings have exceeded its production budget, but theaters retain a portion of ticket revenue, and marketing expenses add to the overall cost.
Directed by Kitao Sakurai, the new Street Fighter was co-produced by Legendary Pictures and Capcom. Paramount Pictures released the film in North America on October 16, 2026, following its premiere at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.
The original live-action Street Fighter movie opened in North American theaters on December 23, 1994.
