The 2026 Street Fighter movie has opened with $13 million at the US box office, including $4 million from Thursday previews, marking the biggest opening day for a film in the franchise. The live-action reboot is projected to earn between $30 million and $35 million during its first three days in domestic theatres, according to the reported box office estimates.
The film’s opening-day haul ranks second among fighting game adaptations, behind Mortal Kombat 2, which earned $16.8 million on its opening day. The latest Street Fighter film has already earned more than twice the opening-weekend totals of either previous Street Fighter movie, according to the figures provided.
Despite the strong start, audience reactions have been mixed. The film received a B- CinemaScore, while its reported Rotten Tomatoes audience score stands at 80%. The CinemaScore grade has raised concerns about whether the film can maintain its momentum beyond opening weekend.
The projected $30 million to $35 million domestic debut would give the reboot the second-biggest opening weekend for a fighting game adaptation in the US, behind Mortal Kombat 2’s reported $38.2 million debut last May. It would also comfortably surpass the opening weekends of the previous Street Fighter films.
The 1994 Street Fighter movie opened with $6.9 million domestically, while 2009’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li debuted with $4.7 million. The 1994 film, directed by Steven E. de Souza and starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile, eventually grossed approximately $99.4 million worldwide.
Directed by Kitao Sakurai, the 2026 reboot stars Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, and David Dastmalchian as M. Bison. Set in the 1990s, the story follows Ryu and Ken as they reunite for the World Warrior Tournament, where they face a larger conflict involving the franchise’s roster of fighters.
