A hacker is seeking help from various AI models to jailbreak PS5 firmware 14.10 – the main hurdle in the way of GTA VI running on PC at launch via emulation.
ZigZagBoi1 is investigating potential kernel vulnerabilities in the latest PS5 firmware, with an open-source GitHub repository documenting the research, test logs and possible attack vectors. While a userland exploit exists, a working kernel exploit or jailbreak currently remains out of reach. The research uses a Lua 5.1 loader delivered through a modified save file for Hamidashi Creative, a Japanese visual novel that runs on the Artemis engine. The loader opens a TCP listener on port 9026, allowing the hacker to run probes examining memory access, system calls, networking and potential kernel vulnerabilities.
Existing progress includes arbitrary syscall access, GPU-mapped heap read/write capabilities and techniques for leaking address information from loaded modules. The architecture of a return-oriented programming (ROP) chain has also been decoded. The next major milestone is defeating Kernel Address Space Layout Randomization (KASLR) and achieving kernel memory read/write access. 16 additional probes are prepared for testing, targeting potential information leaks, syscall behaviour and other avenues that could expose weaknesses in the PS5’s kernel.
ZigZagBoi1 is encouraging other hackers to contribute, even if they don’t own a PS5. The repository contains technical findings, raw test results and research notes that can be fed into AI models for further analysis. The hacker specifically wants AI assistance in identifying overlooked kernel pointer patterns, examining FreeBSD source code, discovering new attack vectors and developing strategies to defeat KASLR.
The project also has a hardware funding goal of 350 CA Dollars to purchase another PS5 for physical kernel data extraction and further testing. 293.05 CA Dollars have been raised as of writing.
ZigZagBoi1 subsequently took to Twitter/X to mention that he could jailbreak PS5 firmware 14.10 before the release of the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series on November 19, 2026, provided he gets help from the hacking community. Among the intended goals is to dump GTA VI game files and run it on PC via PS5 emulation/translation.
