The PC version of Sony Interactive Entertainment and Insomniac Games’ action-adventure game, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, now runs on Xbox Series X in Developer Mode.
In his recent video, developer and content creator DaddyPrinceWorld (via InfoXbox_ on Twitter/X) shows the PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered running on Microsoft’s current-generation console using Developer Mode, which allows users to install and run applications outside of the standard Xbox Store ecosystem.
According to the content creator, the process requires activating the console’s Developer Mode, setting up a developer account, installing the necessary software, and importing the game files through Steam or another store. He recommends having approximately 80 GB of free storage before starting the process. Users should also back up locally stored game captures, as switching to Developer Mode can delete captured videos and screenshots saved on the console.
It’s worth mentioning that running the game comes with certain limitations. As the developer explains, Developer Mode’s available memory is restricted to approximately 5 GB of RAM and video memory (VRAM), limiting performance and graphical quality. As such, players must lower graphics settings in order to reduce memory usage and avoid crashes.
The initial release also requires shader compilation, which takes around four minutes in the demonstration. The content creator mentions that the game generally settles at approximately 60 fps after caching shaders, at times going up to 80 fps or higher. A future build may come with pre-compiled Xbox Series X|S shaders. Other issues like occasional crashes and visual bugs are also expected to be improved.
DaddyPrinceWorld hopes Microsoft will increase Developer Mode’s memory allocation in a future system update for Xbox Series X|S, allowing more demanding games to run with improved performance.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered was released on November 12, 2020, for PlayStation 5 and on August 12, 2022, for Windows PC. It was originally released for PlayStation 4 on September 7, 2018.
