The Elder Scrolls VI Was Asset Ready In 2025 & Should Release In Late 2027, Claims Alleged Contractor

by Muhammad Ali Bari

An alleged contractor who claims to have worked on Bethesda Game Studios’ upcoming action role-playing game, The Elder Scrolls VI, has offered a detailed account of the game’s development, suggesting that its visual assets were effectively finalized in 2025 and that the studio should release the title in late 2027.

The anonymous 4chan poster (via Fez_Sauce on Reddit) claimed to have worked for an outsourcing engine house on The Elder Scrolls VI, primarily handling global illumination environment implementation. They corroborated prior rumors regarding Hammerfell being the game’s setting, saying that its environments feature Mediterranean-style coastlines, forests to the north and desert regions to the east.

The alleged contractor stated that, by 2025, “the entire environment was effectively finalized,” while outsourcing studios were still producing clutter assets and tilesets. They also claimed to have seen in-engine tests involving characters and environmental assets being used to evaluate ray tracing and physically based rendering.

The 4chan poster described Hammerfell’s architecture as drawing from a mixture of historical influences. They mentioned Ansei, or Yokudan, architecture incorporated cyclopean stone construction alongside influences resembling Gobekli Tepe, Anatolian structures and Petra. They also described elaborate decorative assets featuring combinations of sandstone, jade and gold.

On the technology side, the 4chan poster claimed that The Elder Scrolls VI was undergoing a substantial global illumination overhaul. According to their account, the game was moving away from older rasterized lighting techniques toward a DDGI-style system using irradiance caches and continuously updated ray-traced data. They further claimed the technology was being developed in collaboration with idTech.

Based on their alleged experience with the project’s development timeline, the individual believes that The Elder Scrolls VI should have a  late-2027 release window. However, they clarifed that their information was limited to the assets and technology they personally saw through outsourcing work.

In November, 2025, during an interview with GQ, Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard said that The Elder Scrolls VI is “still a long way off.” Read about it here.
