The Witcher 4 is now in full production with 519 developers working on the project, CD Projekt has confirmed. The game is currently the company’s largest development project, with the team representing a substantial portion of its overall development workforce.
The update was provided during CD Projekt’s first half 2026 earnings call, where the company reiterated its target of releasing The Witcher 4 in 2028. Management did not provide a more specific release date, but explained that development has now moved into its full production phase.
CD Projekt broadly described this stage as the point where the team has a clear understanding of the game it is building and is primarily focused on filling it with content. The company said, “As we have stated quite a few times before we’re in the full production stage of The Witcher 4 which roughly means in very broad strokes that we know pretty well what kind of game we’re making with elements and so on and then it’s filling the game with content and so on.”
The studio is tracking the project through numerous internal milestones, although it does not plan to disclose all of them publicly because many are highly technical and would have limited meaning outside the development team.
The Witcher 4 Build Runs Across Target Platforms
CD Projekt also clarified what it previously meant when discussing The Witcher 4 running on every platform. The statement does not mean that the complete game is currently playable or that the current build contains its final scale and content.
Instead, the development team maintains a launchable version of the current build on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. CD Projekt explained, “It just means that the current build that the team operates on is maintained and is launchable on each target platform. This is very important for us in the development process.”
The company subsequently stressed that this should not be interpreted as meaning the game is close to completion, adding, “it does not imply it’s a full game, full scale, full content.”
Maintaining a launchable build across the target platforms allows the development team to assess the game and its performance on the hardware it ultimately intends to support.
CD Projekt Continues Investing In The Witcher 4
The size of The Witcher 4 development team is also reflected in CD Projekt’s spending. The company invested nearly 385 million PLN in new development work during the first half of 2026, with The Witcher 4, Cyberpunk 2 and Songs of the Past among the main projects receiving investment.
The Witcher 4 is part of a wider pipeline of projects currently being developed by CD Projekt. Songs of the Past, the upcoming Witcher 3 expansion, is planned for 2027 and is expected to have a scope comparable to Blood and Wine.
CD Projekt has also confirmed that its recently outlined three year Witcher roadmap does not represent the full list of projects being worked on within the franchise’s universe.
Beyond its Witcher projects, CD Projekt is developing Cyberpunk 2, Project Sirius and Project Hadar. Cyberpunk 2 currently has 184 developers, while Hadar remains in the concept phase with more than 30 developers and is expected to grow to around 50 developers by the end of 2026.
