CD Projekt has outlined a three year roadmap for The Witcher franchise, with The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Remastered scheduled for 2026, the new Songs of the Past expansion planned for 2027 and The Witcher 4 currently targeting 2028.
The plans were discussed during CD Projekt’s first half 2026 earnings call, where the company also confirmed that The Witcher franchise has surpassed 90 million copies sold worldwide. The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt accounts for more than 65 million of those sales.
The first release will be The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Remastered, which is scheduled to launch on September 29, 2026. The updated version will include visual, performance and gameplay improvements, alongside a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 version.
Existing owners will receive the remastered game and both Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine at no additional cost. CD Projekt expects the release to bring previous players back to The Witcher 3 while introducing new players to the franchise.
Songs Of The Past Planned For 2027
The next major release is Songs of the Past, which CD Projekt describes as the third full expansion for The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. It is planned for 2027 and is expected to have a scope comparable to Blood and Wine.
CD Projekt is positioning the expansion as a link between The Witcher 3 and the next saga, allowing the company to maintain interest in the franchise ahead of The Witcher 4. A specific release date has not yet been announced.
During the earnings call, CD Projekt declined to provide more information about the expansion’s development progress, explaining that doing so could allow its release window to be narrowed down. The company said, “So for now we’re just saying 2027 and you will have to live with that for a moment of judgment.”
The expansion has already generated significant interest. CD Projekt said that nearly 9,000 players experienced its hands-off Gamescom gameplay showcase, alongside 1,500 media representatives and industry professionals.
The company also reported that the Songs of the Past teaser, Gamescom demo supercut and The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Remastered announcement trailer generated 26 million views across its own channels, excluding Opening Night Live views. Songs of the Past also accumulated 900,000 wishlists within a week.
The Witcher 4 Targets 2028
The Witcher 4 is currently targeting a 2028 release and will begin a new saga for the franchise. CD Projekt described the project as its “biggest, boldest, and most ambitious projects in our history so far.”
The company also made clear that its three year roadmap does not represent everything it is working on within The Witcher universe. CD Projekt said, “And I want to be clear, this is not the full list of what we are working on in this universe.”
No additional Witcher projects were revealed during the earnings call. The comments nevertheless indicate that CD Projekt has plans for the franchise beyond The Witcher 3 Remastered, Songs of the Past and The Witcher 4.
