Norwegian retailer Elkjop has reportedly listed Monolith Soft as the developer of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo Switch 2. The listing could provide a new indication of Monolith Soft’s involvement in the project, although it does not establish whether the studio is serving as the main developer or providing development support.
Monolith Soft has a long-standing relationship with Nintendo and has previously contributed to major entries in The Legend of Zelda series. The studio’s Yasuhiro Fujita and Nintendo’s Daiki Iwamoto recently discussed their collaboration on Zelda projects including Skyward Sword, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
During that discussion, Iwamoto described the decision to entrust design and planning work for a Zelda game to an external studio as a situation where “anticipation and anxiety were mixed.” Fujita similarly explained that Monolith Soft was excited to work on such a major project while questioning whether its contributions “would really be accepted [at Nintendo].”
The reported Elkjop listing therefore adds to existing indications of Monolith Soft’s involvement with Nintendo’s Zelda projects. However, the retailer listing alone does not clarify the studio’s exact responsibilities on the Ocarina of Time remake.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake was officially revealed during the June 2026 Nintendo Direct. The project is being developed exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 and is described as a ground-up reimagining of the 1998 Nintendo 64 game, with updated environments, character and enemy models and a modernised presentation while retaining the original gameplay structure.
Nintendo has announced the remake for release in 2026.
