Thief: The Dark Project Remastered Launches December 3

by Greg Martin

Nightdive Studios, Eidos-Montréal and Atari have announced that Thief: The Dark Project Remastered will launch on December 3, 2026, for PC and consoles. The remaster of Looking Glass Studios’ 1998 stealth game will include content from Thief Gold alongside an entirely new campaign called The Tarnished Mirror. Digital editions will start at $29.99, while physical pre-orders are now available for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.

Developed using Nightdive Studios’ KEX Engine, the remaster brings the original game to modern platforms while retaining its stealth-focused gameplay. It includes the additional missions, content and updates introduced in the 1999 Thief Gold re-release, as well as support for community-created modifications.

The biggest addition is The Tarnished Mirror, a new standalone story campaign created by the team behind Thief: The Black Parade, a fan-made expansion for the original game. The campaign takes place between Thief: The Dark Project and Thief II: The Metal Age, introducing new factions, locations and enemies while expanding on the series’ horror elements.

The story begins with what appears to be a routine theft before events lead to imprisonment, unexpected alliances and an expedition into a submerged necropolis inspired by R’lyeh. The campaign features larger environments and more elaborate level design, with an emphasis on unsettling supernatural encounters.

Nightdive Studios and Eidos-Montréal have also incorporated The Tarnished Mirror into the series’ official canon. The remaster will continue supporting player-created mods, including The Black Parade.
