Tales of Destiny Players Discover Legitimate Way to Recruit Lilith After Nearly 29 Years

A legitimate method to recruit Lilith Aileron in the original PlayStation version of Tales of Destiny has been discovered nearly 29 years after the game’s release. The finding confirms that Stahn’s younger sister can join the party through normal gameplay, rather than requiring cheats, debug tools or modified game files.

YouTuber Kevangelion shared the discovery in a video titled “Tales of Destiny PSX USA – Legitimate Lilith Recruit Scene”. The findings suggest that Lilith’s recruitment was intentionally included in the original game, despite remaining undiscovered for decades.

According to Kevangelion, unlocking Lilith requires players to complete the first part of the game while following several strict conditions. The method appears to reward a “clean” playthrough in which players avoid stealing items from civilian houses, although treasure chests in dungeons and those belonging to harbour warehouse keepers are permitted.

Players must also avoid manually changing Stahn’s equipped weapon, particularly Dymlos or weapons removed through story events. Following the game’s destination instructions is another requirement, meaning players should avoid ignoring warnings from party members about where to go next.

Kevangelion noted that these conditions may not represent every requirement involved, but the method has been successfully verified twice.

Lilith becomes recruitable during Part 2, specifically during the fish errand that takes players out of Lienea. After obtaining the Silver Ladle, players must return to Stahn’s house in Lienea, where a reunion scene involving Philia takes place.

Once that scene finishes, players can leave the house and speak with Lilith to recruit her into the party. The Silver Ladle must remain in the inventory throughout the process, as selling or discarding it can prevent the recruitment.

The method works without additional steps in the North American release. However, the Japanese version has a complication that requires players to use two different editions of the game.

According to the findings, Lilith can only be recruited in the original Japanese print run, but doing so causes a soft lock because the next story event fails to trigger. Players must save immediately after recruiting her and then load that save using the Japanese “BEST” re-release to continue progressing. This means both versions are necessary for Japanese players who want to recruit Lilith and finish the game.

The complete requirements are available in the description of Kevangelion’s video, and players are advised to follow them closely because the conditions are strict.

Tales of Destiny originally launched in Japan on December 23, 1997, before arriving in North America in September 1998. Rumours about Lilith being a hidden playable character circulated for years, although no legitimate recruitment method had been established. Namco later made her officially playable in the 2006 PlayStation 2 remake.
