Unbeatable Switch 2 Version Delayed Over Dev Kit Issues

by Salal Awan

The Switch 2 version of Unbeatable has been delayed again because D-Cell Games has struggled to obtain development kits for Nintendo’s console, creating problems with testing and troubleshooting the game.

The developer explained that accessing Switch 2 dev kits has been “difficult” and “pretty much impossible”, making it harder to iterate on the console version. As a result, iam8bit has postponed all physical editions of Unbeatable at retailers worldwide until Q1 2027.

“Hey! This sucks. We’re delaying the Switch 2 version a bit further out,” D-Cell Games said. “The primary reason for this is, frankly, that accessing devkits for the platform has been difficult. Pretty much impossible, actually. As you might imagine, this causes a logistical problem in troubleshooting Switch 2 builds.”

Development is continuing despite the delay. D-Cell Games said it has moved some console development work in-house and has identified ways to improve performance across all console versions, but the lack of Switch 2 dev kits has slowed the process because third parties currently have to handle testing.

The developer added that other studios are facing similar difficulties obtaining Nintendo Switch 2 development kits. It said it hopes ongoing discussions with Nintendo will help resolve the situation and allow development to move forward more quickly.

iam8bit confirmed that physical editions for other platforms ordered directly from the company will still ship in Q4 2026 as originally planned. Only the Switch 2 physical editions are affected by the postponement.

D-Cell Games hasn’t provided a specific new release date for the Switch 2 version yet. iam8bit said it will confirm the new street date once the revised production schedule has been finalised.
