GameStop is set to dramatically increase the prices of its pre-owned PS5 Pro consoles, with used systems reaching as much as $1,499.99.
According to an internal GameStop pricing notice, the changes will take effect on October 16. The notice specifically says the higher price for pre-owned consoles compared with new systems is intentional.
The pre-owned PS5 Pro Digital Edition will be priced at $1,399.99, while the Physical Edition will cost $1,499.99. Several special editions are also listed at $1,499.99, including the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition and Wolverine-themed models.
The updated prices and trade values listed in the notice are as follows:
- PS5 Pro Digital White: $1,399.99 retail, $800 trade value
- PS5 Pro Physical White: $1,499.99 retail, $850 trade value
- PS5 Pro Physical 30th Anniversary: $1,499.99 retail, $850 trade value
- PS5 Pro Physical Wolverine Adamantium: $1,499.99 retail, $850 trade value
- PS5 Pro Physical Wolverine Yellow: $1,499.99 retail, $850 trade value
- PS5 Pro Digital Wolverine Adamantium: $1,399.99 retail, $800 trade value
- PS5 Pro Digital Wolverine Yellow: $1,399.99 retail, $800 trade value
- PS5 Pro Digital 30th Anniversary: $1,399.99 retail, $800 trade value
GameStop also says that price protection plans will temporarily be unavailable for these products once the changes are applied, although they are expected to be restored later.
The new pricing is particularly notable because it puts pre-owned PS5 Pro consoles well above the current retail price of a new system. The notice does not provide a reason for the unusually high pricing, beyond explicitly confirming that the higher pre-owned price is intentional.
