Until Dawn 2 has received an M18 rating in Singapore for strong violence and coarse language, with the classification revealing details about the horror sequel’s graphic content. The rating was issued by Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), ahead of the game’s January 28, 2027, release on PS5.
According to the classification, Until Dawn 2 features particularly brutal death sequences, including dismemberment, decapitation and bisection. The game also contains heavy blood splatter, mutilated bodies and other explicit depictions of violence.
One cutscene shows a character having a lung forcibly removed, while other sequences involve characters being impaled or having their faces and bodies torn apart by creatures. The classification also mentions skeletal remains, bloodstains, animal carcasses and scenes in which animals are seriously harmed. A grotesque creature is also shown threatening the characters.
The game contains frequent strong language, including explicit expletives and milder swear words. IMDA also identified romantic scenes involving two women, including kissing, hugging and other displays of affection. One sequence implies sexual intimacy before fading to black, while some dialogue contains sexual innuendo. Characters are also depicted consuming weed.
Developed by Firesprite with narrative assistance from AdHoc Studio, Until Dawn 2 is a standalone sequel that moves the action away from Blackwood Mountain to an abandoned tropical island. The story follows a group of ghost-hunting influencers who secure a television contract after a viral social media stunt.
Hoping to turn a supernatural mystery into a successful television programme, the group travels to an isolated island resort. However, their plans take a dangerous turn when horrifying events begin unfolding, forcing them to deal with supernatural threats and growing tensions within the group.
The sequel retains the series’ choice-driven survival horror gameplay, with players controlling different characters from a third-person perspective. Exploration, conversations and encounters with enemies are combined with cinematic sequences that advance the story.
The Butterfly Effect system also returns, allowing dialogue and action choices to influence relationships, story developments and which characters survive. Players will need to respond to timed onscreen prompts during critical moments, with their decisions potentially determining the fate of individual characters.
IMDA determined that the game’s violence, language, sexual references and drug-related content fall within Singapore’s M18 classification guidelines.
