Windrose Hits 1M Sales, 200K Concurrent Players

by Greg Martin

Windrose has reached a major early milestone following its launch, with developer Kraken Express confirming that the open-world pirate survival game has sold over 1 million copies within its first 6 days. The title has also recorded more than 200,000 concurrent players, reflecting strong initial engagement from its player base.

Released into Early Access on April 14, 2026, Windrose is currently available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The developers acknowledged the rapid success in a message to players, crediting the community for its support while also noting ongoing work on updates and fixes as development continues.

Windrose blends survival mechanics with open-world exploration, placing players in the role of a stranded pirate rebuilding their empire after a shipwreck tied to the legendary Blackbeard. The game features a procedurally generated ocean, allowing players to explore islands, delve into dungeons, and transition seamlessly between naval and on-foot combat.

Combat is described as “souls-lite,” emphasizing timing and precision, while progression is driven by crafting systems and base-building. Players can construct fortified settlements and expand their influence across the world, either alone or in cooperative play with up to 8 participants.

Published globally by Kraken Express, with Pocketpair Publishing handling its release in Japan, Windrose has quickly gained traction during its Early Access phase. While currently limited to PC, the developers have indicated that console versions may be considered in the future.
