The recently announced Xbox Series X 25th Anniversary edition will reportedly feature a 6nm SoC, a lighter heatsink, and more
According to details shared by modder and game console technician Modyfikator89 on Twiiter/X, Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox Series X 25th Anniversary Edition brings more than just new cosmetics. While the transparent design is the most prominent feature, the system reportedly includes several internal hardware revisions that make it the most refined version of the console to buy.
While Microsoft had already transitioned the Xbox Series X SoC from the 7nm chip used since the original launch model to 6nm fabrication with recent models like the digital-only edition and the 2 TB Special Edition, the improved efficiency has allowed Microsoft to redesign the 25th Anniversary Edition’s cooling solution. Because the chip generates less heat, the console no longer requires as much cooling mass to maintain operating temperatures. As such, the console’s heatsink has undergone some significant changes, making it lighter than the original. The heatsink present in the original Xbox Series X weighed 905 grams, while the updated revision in the X25 Anniversary Edition comes in at 815 grams, bringing a reduction of 90 grams.
Power consumption has also reportedly been reduced. The revised hardware draws less power, which translates into lower temperatures during gameplay and quieter fan operation under load. In additional to the reskinned exterior, the internal improvements will undoubtedly make the Xbox Series X25 Anniversary Edition more appealing to those who value reduced noise levels and improved energy efficiency.
Microsoft has yet to officially confirm the revised heatsink and reduced power consumption for the Xbox Series X25 Anniversary Edition. The console and controller will be available together in select markets as a limited edition collection in November, 2026, with the Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition also available separately. The company will share details on pricing and pre-order availability sometime soon.
