Stellar Blade Sales Have Surpassed 1 Million Copies

Sales of Sony Interactive Entertainment and Shift Up’s action adventure game, Stellar Blade, have now surpassed 1 million copies.

During the IPO press conference (via) held today on June 25, 2024, Jae-Woo Ahn, CFO of Shift Up, revealed that sales of Stellar Blade have now surpassed 1 million copies based on the company’s estimates.

Stellar Blade’s sales performance will be accounted for starting from the second quarter of 2024. Shift Up’s securities report indicates that the game’s revenue reached 6.3 billion South Korean Won in April, 2024, and 15.7 billion Won in May, 2024. This figure only includes the numbers settled by the publisher, Sony Interactive Entertainment. Ahn stated that Stellar Blade has performed well, both in terms of pre-release and post-release sales.

Ahn also noted that although Stellar Blade was released exclusively for the PS5, the console’s distribution and activation rates have not matched those of the PS4. He mentioned that the main audience for AAA games is shifting towards PC, and the company is considering releasing a PC version of Stellar Blade, which could further enhance the IP’s worth.

Regarding the game’s development, Shift Up CEO Hyung-Tae Kim explained that the primary goal was to create a high-value IP to attract a global user base and establish a fan base, rather than maximizing profit. To boost brand value, the company minimized elements that might bring about friction with the community, such as micro-transactions, although he said that they will be incorporated to a reasonable extent. He also mentioned the possibility of paid DLC if there are collaborations with other IPs. One such collaboration is planned between Stellar Blade and Goddess of Victory: NIKKE. Kim stated that the company is exploring various opportunities for positive synergy between the two games and expects to deliver promising results sometime soon.

Previously, it was reported that the recent update for Stellar Blade has resulted in its Graphics and Balanced Mode visuals looking blurry. Read about it here.
