Activision is reportedly assembling the development team for the next Halo game, while former Halo Studios leader Pierre Hintze will not be in charge of the project. The information comes from Windows Central journalist Jez Corden, who discussed the situation on the Xbox Two Podcast.
According to Corden, reports claiming that Hintze would lead the next Halo and was already assembling a team are inaccurate. Instead, Corden said the project is now entirely under Activision’s responsibility, with the publisher putting together the development team and determining who will lead it.
Activision will reportedly decide the project’s leadership, including its showrunners. However, the report indicates that no final decision has been made regarding the creative direction of the new Halo game.
Corden described the project as being at an early stage, with several possible directions reportedly under consideration. These include continuing the story established by Halo Infinite, moving forward from the events of Halo 3, or restarting the series from an earlier point.
Another report has suggested that Activision could be considering a more complete reboot, potentially involving a new origin story for Master Chief. However, this remains unconfirmed, and Corden’s comments indicate that Activision is still evaluating the direction of the project.
Meanwhile, the remaining Halo Studios team is reportedly expected to focus on supporting existing Halo projects. This could include continued updates and bug fixes for Halo: Campaign Evolved, as well as ongoing maintenance for Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The extent of any additional content planned for Campaign Evolved has not been confirmed.
