Terraforming is an important part of Animal Crossing New Horizons. Here’s how you can unlock the Island Designer app to start Terraforming.
Island Designer is a great new feature in Animal Crossing New Horizons. You can find this in the form of an app on Nook’s phone. It will allow you to customize your Island and build new paths and other objects. Here’s what you need to get started with it.
How To Unlock Island Designer App
There are a number of requirements that you need to fulfill before you are able to unlock the Island Designers app in Animal Crossing New Horizons. First, unlock the Resident Services Building and start Tom Nook’s Project K assignment.
In this assignment, you build a campsite and give an invitation to the first camper to come and live on your Island. Afterward, build three plots for houses, bring villagers to shift there, and get a three-star rating for your Island.
After doing this, you can get the island Designer app on your phone. You get access to path tools at the start. They have two types, grass, and dirt. You can unlock more tools through Nook Miles.
You have to spend Nook Miles to unlock the different paths. Some will cost you as much as 2300 while others are cheaper. Here’s a list of the path types.
- Grass (free)
- Dirt path (free)
- Stone path
- Brick path
- Dark dirt path
- Arched tile path
- Sand path
- Terra-cotta tiles
- Wooden path
- Custom Design path
- Unlocking the Water scaping and Cliff-construction permits.
To unlock the Water scaping and Cliff-construction permit, you need to spend 6000 Nook Miles.
How to Terraform Using Island Designer In Animal Crossing New Horizons
Terraforming will require you to first get familiar with the tools. You can use the manual inside the app if you need help. You can use the path tool to make and remove paths. Different paths can be laid next to each other. The trick to creating a special shape is to place similar tiles next to each other and then tweak them with the A button. You can create rounded or other shapes this way.
In order to use custom designs, you will first have to download them from the internet. This requires you to spend 2300 Nook Miles. Any paths can be removed by pressing the Y button.
You can also do water scaping by digging trenches and then filling them up. The trick to water scaping is to learn where your character has to be placed in the game. Keep the length of the tiles in mind when you are building a bridge. You will need them in order for the villagers to cross the river that you make using Terraforming.
During terraforming, it is possible to construct cliffs as well as waterfalls. Climb a cliff for a waterfall and then use waterscaping tools at the edge to make one. Don’t try to make a cliff without an incline as villagers won’t be able to climb it.
