What Is New In Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Expansion?

This is not just a simple expansion. It offers a brand new storyline that can rival the main game. There is a new elder dragon and the party is transported to a new location with a snow themed landscape. There will be plenty of new monsters to defeat in the game and complete a new set of quests. Here is an overview of the story through the official Capcom Blog.

The story of Iceborne starts after the conclusion of the events tied to the end of World with the Elder Crossing phenomena, as the Research Commission begins to notice very unusual Legiana behavior in the New World. This new mystery is the catalyst for a whole new story chapter that leads us to a brand new locale, and the discovery that the legendary Velkhana is way more than just a myth…

This expansion will introduce the players to a new environment: Hoarfrost Reach. This is a location with some extreme weather conditions that don’t just serve as background elements but can have an effect on how the game plays out now. There are many new monsters to tame in this location and as per the developers, Iceborne will be the “largest” region in all of Monster Hunter World.

There will be new weapons too, of course, but some of the old favorites also get an upgrade. Slinger has been updated to fit in with the methods of the new deadly monsters. Here are two of the key features of Slinger which will be available to those who purchase the Iceborne expansion.

#1. The Slinger can now be used while your weapon is drawn! This will open up a variety of opportunities for dealing with monsters, setting up new powerful combo attacks, getting out of harm’s way, etc.

#2. Clutch Claw: a versatile tool that lets you grapple onto monsters at a moment’s notice. From there you’ll also be able to unleash devastating attacks or even directly guide the monster momentarily.

If you want to see some of it in action, make sure to check out the developer stream that was held today to share details on the upcoming expansion. You will be able to play it from September 6th on PS4 and Xbox One. PC users have to wait until Winter 2019 to get their hands on it.
